OEC calls for C&DD landfill moratorium
In an email last Friday, the Ohio Environmental Council (OEC) announced that it was calling for a moratorium on dumping in Ohio’s construction & demolition debris (C&DD) landfills.
OEC Director Keith Dimoff expressed concerns about potential groundwater contamination from C&DD landfills and urged Ohioans to join the effort by writing to Gov. Strickland.
Dimoff cited a recent Ohio EPA study, which concluded that leachate from C&DD landfills “poses a threat to public health and the environment if released to groundwater or surface water.”
